# Create your first workspace

> Submit a company domain, complete signup, and start the first Alesta profiling run.

Every Alesta workspace is anchored to a company domain. The domain gives the workspace its initial public context and determines which site Alesta profiles.

## Before you start

Use a public company hostname such as `example.com`.

* You can enter a bare hostname or a normal website URL.
* The site must be publicly reachable for Alesta to read it.
* Use a domain you own, operate, or have a legitimate business reason to assess.
* You do not need to connect analytics or social accounts for the first public profile.
* A payment card is not required for the free profiling run.

## Start from alesta.ai

<Steps>
  <Step title="Enter the company domain">
    On [alesta.ai](https://alesta.ai), enter the domain in the company-domain
    field and select **Analyze my domain**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create an account or sign in">
    Complete the authentication flow. Alesta keeps the submitted hostname
    through signup without adding it to a public URL.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Let Alesta attach the domain">
    On the first authenticated load, the application attaches the saved domain
    to the appropriate workspace. You should not need to enter it a second time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Watch the profiling run begin">
    The application opens the Company workspace and starts the first profiling
    run. Results appear as individual phases finish.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The marketing-to-app handoff is short-lived. If you wait too long, clear browser data, or use a different browser, the application may ask for the domain again.

## Start inside the application

If you are already signed in:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the workspace switcher">
    Select the company name and domain at the top of the left Company panel.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose New workspace">
    Select **New workspace...** from the bottom of the menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the company domain">
    Enter the hostname in **Company domain**, then select **Create**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the new workspace">
    Alesta switches to the created or resolved workspace and begins preparing
    its baseline.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  A workspace cannot produce a baseline without a domain. If an older or
  incomplete workspace has no domain, Alesta opens a domain dialog before
  showing its analysis.
</Note>

## What happens next

The run typically moves through site reachability, measurement, page reading, profile construction, competitor research, document writing, and result publication. These phases do not have one guaranteed duration because site size and provider response times vary.

You can remain in the workspace while the run continues. The global progress indicator, Analytics status line, document states, and Logs tab show what is ready and what is still running.

## If the domain is rejected

Check that the value:

* contains a valid public suffix;
* has no spaces;
* is not a local or private-network address;
* points to the intended company site;
* can be reached without credentials.

If the input is valid but the site cannot be reached, see [Domain and analysis issues](/troubleshooting/domain-and-analysis).
